Biden WH’s Wed focus is climate. Briefing at 12:15 w Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry, National Climate Advisor Gina McCarthy and @presssec. Then at 1:30 the president will sign exec actions on “climate change, creating jobs, and restoring scientific integrity.”
"Things are going to continue to get worse before they get better," Biden said a few minutes ago about the pandemic.
"We didn't get into this mess overnight and it's going to take months for us to turn this around. But let me be equally clear: we're going to get through this."
This means that the U.S. expects to have 600 million doses ordered, in total, from Pfizer and Moderna -- enough for 300 million people to receive a two-dose vaccination.
(But note the hedging: "working to purchase" the new doses, guaranteeing higher shipments for 3 weeks only.)
New: the White House announces that it will boost vaccine shipments to 10m/week from 8.6m/week for three weeks (but doesn't say where the doses are coming from), and that it *plans to* order another 100m each of Pfizer and Moderna. Those doses are due over the summer.
