Bristol Motor Speedway and NASCAR faces a tall task in optimizing track conditions for a 250-lap daytime Cup race on dirt, but they have a plan and simulation data to support their configuration choices.
My question for NASCAR's Scott Miller.
If this is a success, how can this event continue with the Next-Gen? Based on Eldora, they could tear up a lot of chassis at Bristol, which makes 2021 a good year to try this, but if it works, how does this work with a new expensive car?
What will determine if the Bristol Dirt Race is a success to NASCAR's Scott Miller?
SMI's Steve Swift says they're going to use the Bristol Dirt Late Model Invitational to get a baseline for how the track will need to be managed during the NASCAR weekend.
Swift said in a previous call that he's acknowledging that a day race and the sun will work against them.

@jeff_gluck @bobpockrass @MattWeaverAW I apologize if I've missed this anywhere, but I've read the document and don't see if all drivers will advance to features or not?
The 36 teams with an ownership charter are contractually guaranteed a starting spot in the feature.
If there are more than four open teams, inclusion in the feature is determined by passing points and heats.

The NASCAR Cup Series Bristol dirt race will use heat races and passing points to determine the starting lineup.
Choose rule will not be in effect for the Bristol Dirt race. The overtime rules, free pass and wave around procedures will be in effect.

Our sport has always had "funded" drivers.
But its high time a few of these privileged kids, powered by daddy's pile of cash, realize this whole sport doesn't exist just to make their dreams come true.
Take some time to learn from those who've WORKED their way to the top.

The 2021 CARS Tour Late Model Stock season begins on Saturday afternoon at Dillon Motor Speedway in South Carolina.
Here's the entry list and streaming information.
Looking forward to Dillon on Saturday. CARS Tour is probably my favorite beat over the past 7 years. Great cast of characters --a mix of veteran short trackers and prospects.
The tracks are right out of the 1980s NASCAR Busch Series schedule and the whole package is throwback.
