Happy #WomensHistoryMonth! To support the next generation of women, we are excited to add three new projects to the Girls Opportunity Alliance Fund today that help girls access virtual learning, support students at risk of dropping out of school, and more:
Celia, a student from our community in Guatemala, shares her inspiring story in Living the Confidence Code, a new book by @ClaireShipman and @KattyKay_ . We just added it to the Girls Opportunity Alliance reading guide—check it out here:
Tomorrow is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, so I’m celebrating the impact of women scientists around the world—including the next generation of women in #STEM like Nimon, a student from the @GirlsAlliance community in Kenya.
Watch her inspiring story. ❤️
Rebecca underwent female genital mutilation when she was just 12 years old. She was forced to drop out of school—and vowed that things would be different for her daughter.
Today on the Day of Zero Tolerance for #FGM, watch her story that she shared with us in 2019.
Throughout #BlackHistoryMonth, we will explore President @BarackObama and @MichelleObama’s legacy and some of the Black leaders and activists who came before them.
We will be celebrating the kinds of inspiring stories that will be told at the future Obama Presidential Center.
On International #EducationDay, I’m celebrating the perseverance of students and teachers around the world—including organizations in the @GirlsAlliance that are helping to keep girls learning safely during the pandemic.
Support their work today:
Students and teachers have faced a year like never before due to the pandemic. On International #EducationDay, we hope you’ll support grassroots organizations in our community that are helping girls to keep learning while remaining healthy and safe:
Today, millions of Americans will answer Dr. King’s call to help others through acts of service.

This brought a smile to my face—as do my memories of seeing @RoomtoRead’s work in Vietnam last year with the @GirlsAlliance. I'm so inspired by these girls and Room to Read’s efforts to ensure that the pandemic doesn’t derail their dreams of getting an education. ❤️
#TBT to last December when the @ObamaFoundation & @girlsalliance visited our @RoomtoRead Vietnam Girls' Education Program. 1 year later, we're still so grateful for this partnership & a couple of students wanted to send some kind words to @MichelleObama:
As Ranjitsinh Disale was honored with 2020's Global Teacher Prize for his work to support girls’ education in India, he announced that he would share the $1 million prize with the nine other finalists working to educate children around the world. 💛
We broke the internet. For real. 🔥😱
Why? Bc women make up 26% of coders. If all the code we wrote totally vanished, the internet as we know it wouldn’t exist.
So, TL/DR let’s get more girls who code.
Check it out 👇🏾
During Computer Science Education Week, @GirlsWhoCode gives us a glimpse of what the internet would look like without the code written by women around the world. Take a look—and then learn more about their work to close the gender gap in tech.
This #GivingTuesday, meet some of the remarkable girls from the @GirlsAlliance global community, along with a few of the organizations that are supporting them during the pandemic.
And, if you’re able, donate to support global girls' education today:
